ABOUT MY WORK: IMAGE PHYCHOLOGY AND THE EIDETIC METHOD
Who developed the Eidetic method?
Image psychology was developed by Akhter Ahsen, Ph.D., leading theorist in the clinical and scientific study of mental imagery. In the late 1950’s, after extensive research, Ahsen created a systematic method of psychotherapy using the eidetic image as a precise and highly effective therapeutic tool. Based on this pioneering work, he has developed an entire field of psychology that is dedicated to the study and therapeutic application of the eidetic image.
About the Eidetic Image
The eidetic image is a powerful personal image seen in the mind like a movie or filmstrip. It has been shown to contain a detailed record of important life experiences with all of the elements intact: the visual picture of the event, the physical and emotional feelings associated with it, and the meaning it contains. By examining the eidetic image through a step-by-step process, significant life events can be viewed from a broader perspective and solutions to long-standing issues can become clear. The eidetic method is a powerful and fast moving approach to health and well being that is equally effective when conducted in person or on the telephone.
The Origins of Image Psychology
The study of the mind and how we perceive the world has a long history in the field of philosophy and psychology from the early writings of the Greeks to the contemporary investigation of the neuroplasticity of the brain. Akhter Ahsen’s formulation of Image Psychology evolved as a melding of psychology, sociology, literature, philosophy, and mythology. It has been heralded as a breakthrough in contemporary psychology that is equally as important as the earlier work of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and cognitive psychologist Jean Piaget.
Does it take a long time to get results using the Eidetic method?
Often results can be achieved in a much shorter time than traditional approaches because the eidetic gives immediate feedback about both the symptom of a problem and its cause.
Is this guided imagery?
Guided imagery is a visualization program of directed suggestions that purposefully guides your imagination toward a focused state. It can be used to enhance performance, aid relaxation or fight disease. Unlike guided imagery, the eidetic image depicts personally significant experiences and contains detailed information about important life events and the resources to achieve well being.
