Finding Calm in the Midst of the Season," Coastal Sport and Wellness Magaizne (December 2007) ~ a brief article on use of Mindfulness Techiques by Dr. Toni Nixon (Click here to download or read online - pdf format).

"Recently I had been through several stressful situations, my mother had died, my husband had heart problems and then surgery. I felt depressed and scattered and didn’t know where to turn. I found the Mindfulness program Toni was offering and thought why not give it a try. The mindfulness practice slowed me down, gave me some clarity of thought and my depression went away. It also gave me life long tools that I know will help me in the future. The program was truly a blessing for me."

The present is the only time that any of us have to be alive, to know anything, to perceive, to learn, to act, to change, to heal. -Jon Kabat-Zinn

MINDFULNESS AND ITS BENEFITS

Mindfulness is simply allowing yourself to be where you are and as you are, right now, in the present moment. It’s developed by purposefully paying attention in a non-judgmental way, to what is going on in your body, your mind and in the world around you. We call this moment-to-moment awareness mindfulness. It is about being awake and aware - living in the present rather than dwelling in the past or anticipating the future.

The goal of the course is to assist you in taking better care of yourself and get more out of living. The majority of people completing the program report lasting physical and psychological benefits including:

  • An increased ability to relax and experience calm
  • Greater energy, enthusiasm and appreciation for life
  • Heightened self-confidence and acceptance for life as it is
  • An increased ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations
  • A decrease in physical and psychological symptoms

The program is intended to help you learn new ways to handle challenging life situations, emotions, social interactions and physical sensations.
